When Lake Peipus is covered in ice and snow sweeps across the fields, locals bring out their kicksleds for trips to the neighbors or the village shop. When the ice settles, we bring out our kicksleds too, ready to test our skills against each other. This is how the kicksled competition Kolkja Kelk is born!

As part of the Winter Festival, the event also features local food vendors and a cultural program by Lake Peipus.

PLAN AND LOCATION

Search for “Kolkja Supluskoht” on Google Maps (Kolkja, by Sadama Street). Parking is available near the swimming spot, and Sadama Street will be one-way on the event day – follow temporary traffic signs!

Joint kicksled races will be held for different age groups:

  • Up to 7 years
  • 8–12 years
  • 13–16 years
  • 17+ men
  • 17+ women

Next comes the kicksled relay race in four-person teams. If luck allows, a motorized kicksled race might also take place. Naturally, award ceremonies will follow.

A cultural program, local food, and the chance to explore the area will also be part of the event.

SCHEDULE

Start times are approximate and may shift slightly; the first race will begin around 12:30.

  • 12:00 Start of the event, registration of participants, and distribution of race numbers. Pre-registered participants can pick up their numbers. On-site registration is available for open spots (single ticket €15, family ticket €25, cash only).
  • 12:30 Start for up to 7 years old (approx. 400 meters) followed by children’s award ceremony.
  • 12:45 Start for 8–12 years and 13–16 years (approx. 800 meters).
  • 13:00 Award ceremony for children’s categories.
  • 13:10 Start for women aged 17+ (approx. 800 meters).
  • 13:25 Start for men aged 17+ (approx. 800 meters).
  • 13:40 Relay race, 4 participants per team (4×800 meters).
  • 14:00 Motorized kicksled race (if possible).
  • 14:15 Awards for adults and teams.

REGISTRATION

Participation fee: €10 per individual or €20 per family, payable before the event.

  • Pre-registration is open until spots are filled or until January 29, 6:00 PM.
  • Choose between registering as a family (two adults and their minor children) or as individual participant(s).

For residents of Peipsiääre municipality, participation is free with pre-registration.

The participation fee includes a race number, a kicksled for the competition, a chance to test your skills on a fun day, and a participation medal (for pre-registered participants only).

If you’re competing in both the joint start and the relay, you don’t need to buy two tickets – just note your participation in multiple categories on the registration form.

Special awards may be granted, such as for the best costume or the most unique sled – let your imagination run wild!

If snow and ice melt and the competitions cannot take place, a fun hike will be organized in Kolkja village instead.
