Kallaste Karakatitsa 2025

In winter, when Lake Peipus is covered in ice, self-made vehicles with massive wheels, called karakatitsas, cruise around this area.

These machines, designed to assist fishermen, have inspired an event called Kallaste Karakatitsa, where the coolest ice vehicles from our region are showcased in a parade. Local food and culture are also part of the event!

The entire event takes place at Kallaste Town Square, with part of the karakatitsa parade happening on Lake Peipus itself.
